Liposuction Cost – Many Things To Consider
Liposuction cost is usually one of the first concerns people have when they are considering getting some kind of liposuction treatment on their bodies, and there are many variables involved in determining the ultimate monetary cost of a liposuction treatment. There is no one size fits all calculation. Liposuction cost will be figured based on any or all of the following considerations.
As with any service-oriented business, the liposuction business is no different. You will find doctors with different experience levels, offering basic and advanced procedures, have an abundance of overhead like an office in a high-rise office building in an expensive part of town, and many more variables can play a role in the cost of liposuction.
One of the first considerations, however, is the sex of the patient. Male liposuction tends to be more costly than female liposuction simply because the fat deposits on men tend to be harder and, thus, more challenging to remove. General and overall health of the patient, whether male or female, will also play a role in the costs. If, for example, the patient is taking medications that could interfere in some way with the anesthesia (assuming surgical liposuction is done), then special considerations may need to be taken in order to effectively and safely do the procedure. This could raise the cost.
The size and weight of the patient will also figure into the cost. Large patients or large areas of the body that will be treated will require more time to perform the procedure. Larger patients will also require more effort on the part of the surgeon and his assistants, as will treatment of multiple body areas in one session. For example, performing liposuction on a person’s hips and thighs at the same time would cost more than just performing the procedure on one of those areas.
The surgeon’s experience will also affect liposuction prices. If he is highly skilled with a large portfolio of satisfied patients, he will be in demand and, therefore, able to charge higher fees. Cheap liposuction may indicate that the surgeon is not very experienced. With any type of medical procedure, experience is preferred and usually commands a higher price.
What part of the country the doctor works in could affect how much he can charge for his service. The local economy can determine prices for any number of goods or services. And places where plastic surgery procedures are in demand—like Los Angeles—will generally cause higher prices to occur.
Other factors that will affect the cost include the fee for an anesthesiologist—if general anesthesia is called for—and operating room fees. The clinic or hospital may require specific post-operative tests be run on a patient. It may also require that a specific number of staff assist the surgeon. So the costs associated with additional personnel and medical space comes into play.
Non surgical liposuction that is done in a doctor’s office doesn’t usually have add-on fees as above. The doctor will usually set a price for the entire procedure, inclusive of assistants and supplies. And more and more new liposuction procedures are being done in doctor-owned clinics or offices.
This could help reduce liposuction cost. Of course this isn’t possible for every patient. It all comes down to the needs of the individual and his or her condition. But the wise patient will consult with the surgeon well before scheduling treatment and make sure that everyone understands the liposuction costs and what they cover. That way no one will be surprised or disappointed. Plastic surgery should have happy results—even on the cost side.
