Neck Liposuction – The Positive Effects It Can Have

Neck liposuction is a procedure with a high self improvement value.  When we meet someone, the face and neck are usually the first features we notice. As we age, these areas can accumulate fat which is hard to lose, in spite of a healthy diet and regular exercise. Deposits of fat on the neck can make a younger person appear older or a fit person appear out of shape, so improvements in this area can make a huge difference of how we are perceived. Neck liposuction can enhance this area by streamlining its contour and improving the profile.

After a patient’s neck is improved through liposuction, it gives the face a more youthful look and often motivates them to improve in other areas of their life. It can provide incentive for healthier choices in fitness and diet, as well as enhancing their self confidence. Reducing a bulging neckline can allow a patient to wear a wider range of clothing and jewelry without being self conscious.

Neck liposuction generally takes an hour and is done under local anesthetic.

The most popular method of liposuction performed on the neck is tumescent liposuction. It is quite safe, with minimal risks and a speedy recovery. With this technique, a tumescent liquid (a mixture of epinephrine, salt water and anesthetic, usually lidocaine) is injected into the fatty tissue. Then a small cannula, a needle attached to a vacuum device, is inserted and the fat is sucked out. Tumescent liposuction is performed under local anesthetic only, greatly reducing the risks and side effects. This procedure also has the added benefit of tightening the skin.

It is normal for your neck to be stiff and sore for a few days following the procedure, but generally ibuprophen is the only pain medication necessary. Your doctor may also prescribe an antibiotic ointment to prevent infection at the incision sites. If there are any stitches, they will be removed in a week to 10 days, unless they dissolve on their own. It’s also normal to be fitted with a compression band to cut down on swelling and to help your neck hold its new shape until the tissues have adjusted.

The results of the surgery should be visible within two or three weeks, but the full effects may not be evident for six months to a year. It is important to remember that the more fat that you had removed, the longer it will take to achieve optimal results since the skin has to adapt to a more radical change of shape.
